Hot Aerosol Fire Extinguishing Technology & Its Advantages Over Traditional Solutions
Release time: 2025-04-10views:

Hot aerosol is an advanced fire suppression medium generated by the combustion of solid fire-extinguishing agents. It forms a mixed system of ultra-fine solid particles and inert gas with submicron particle size. This aerosol can quickly diffuse and penetrate all corners of enclosed spaces, achieving fire suppression through three core mechanisms: chemical inhibition of combustion chain reactions, physical heat absorption and cooling, and oxygen dilution with inert gas. As an ideal replacement for halon fire extinguishing agents, it is widely applied in distribution cabinets, energy storage cabins, communication rooms and other narrow enclosed spaces.

Core Working Principle

The fire-extinguishing effect of hot aerosol relies on synergistic action rather than a single function. Metal ions released during agent combustion combine with active free radicals in flames to cut off the combustion chain reaction fundamentally. Meanwhile, the ultra-fine particles absorb massive heat through melting and gasification, rapidly lowering flame temperature and restraining the decomposition of combustibles. In addition, generated inert gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide reduce local oxygen concentration, further suppress fire spread, and avoid high-pressure impact on precision equipment.

Advantages of Hot Aerosol vs Traditional Fire Extinguishing Methods

Compared with conventional solutions like heptafluoropropane, dry powder and water-based fire extinguishing systems, hot aerosol shows prominent superiorities in multiple dimensions.

In terms of fire suppression efficiency, hot aerosol realizes instantaneous discharge and full-space coverage within milliseconds, putting out fires in an extremely short time to control hazards at the initial stage. Traditional gas systems require longer filling time, dry powder has obvious blind spots due to directional spraying, and water-based solutions perform slowly in cooling and cannot respond rapidly to sudden electrical fires.1 (25).png

For equipment protection and secondary damage control, high-quality S-type hot aerosol leaves non-conductive, non-hygroscopic and corrosion-free residues, which will not pollute or damage electronic and precision instruments. By contrast, dry powder residues are difficult to clean, conductive and easy to corrode equipment; water-based extinguishing will cause short circuits, moisture damage and irreversible losses to electrical facilities.

Regarding installation and daily maintenance, hot aerosol devices adopt non-pressure and pipe-free design. They occupy extremely small space and feature light weight, without regular high-pressure vessel inspection and complex pipeline maintenance. Traditional gas fire extinguishing systems need heavy high-pressure cylinders and supporting pipe networks, leading to high installation difficulty and long-term maintenance costs. Dry powder devices also face hidden troubles such as moisture agglomeration requiring frequent inspection.

In environmental protection performance, hot aerosol has zero ozone depletion potential and zero global warming potential, containing no fluorine pollutants and fully complying with international environmental protection conventions. Heptafluoropropane has a high global warming coefficient; dry powder will cause dust pollution to the environment; water-based systems consume large amounts of water resources and are not eco-friendly in long-term application.

In application adaptability, hot aerosol is highly targeted for narrow enclosed high-value spaces such as power distribution facilities, new energy energy storage cabins and communication core rooms. Traditional fire extinguishing products have limitations: gas systems are suitable for large spaces but costly, dry powder is only for ordinary industrial occasions, and water-based solutions are forbidden for live electrical fire scenarios.

Classification & Application Notes

Hot aerosol is mainly divided into K-type and S-type. K-type has low cost and high fire-extinguishing efficiency but may produce hygroscopic residues, suitable for ordinary industrial places like cable trenches. S-type with non-conductive and anti-corrosion residues is the preferred choice for precision electronic environments and new energy storage areas.

It is applicable to liquid fire, gas fire and electrical fire in enclosed spaces, while it is not recommended for densely populated areas, active metal fires and scenes with strong oxidizing substances.

Summary

Hot aerosol fire extinguishing technology solves the common pain points of traditional fire suppression solutions: it avoids secondary pollution from dry powder and equipment damage from water-based systems, and breaks the restrictions of high cost and complex piping of traditional gas systems. With the comprehensive strengths of rapid fire suppression, low secondary loss, convenient installation, low maintenance cost and environmental friendliness, it has become the preferred professional fire protection solution for modern industry, new energy and intelligent facility scenarios.
